Island vs peninsula
Kitchen- Best for
- Rooms with genuine circulation space on all four sides.
- Watch out
- Clearance is the whole question; an island in a room that cannot take it makes the kitchen worse, not better.
- Cost effect
- The most, especially if services run to it.
- Scope effect
- Any sink or hob in the island means plumbing or ducting through the floor — a construction decision, not a layout one.

- Small kitchens where the floor is worth more than the extra worktop.
- Watch out
- Loses the social centre an island gives; the run does all the work.

- Prep space must be found in the run instead — check it is adequate.

- One end is fixed, so circulation only improves on three sides.
