About the studio

We designwith discipline.

ELS exists to close the gap between a beautiful design and what actually gets built. The costliest mistakes happen before construction even starts — unclear briefs, wrong materials, missing measurements, poor coordination, unapproved changes. We catch them at the planning table, not on site.

The Studio — Material System, Sibu
Our story

A small, focused team with a strong design and coordination system.

ELS by ALUMAX is founder-led by George Wong — one accountable mind across design thinking, product specification, trade coordination and the day-to-day realities of building in Sarawak. A former Senior Research Engineer at a Fortune 500 company, he founded ELS in 2026 to bring engineering discipline to renovation: a home specified and coordinated as a system, not just decorated.

A good project shouldn't ride on memory, assumptions or verbal promises. It should stand on clear briefs, measured decisions, approved specifications and a documented handover — so it survives the gap between the design and the site.

ELS × ALUMAX

ELS creates the design and engineering system behind selected ALUMAX products and projects.

ELS

ELS curates the six style systems, pre-selects material combinations for different budgets, adapts spaces, resolves technical feasibility, plans relevant M&E interfaces and prepares the specifications required for reliable execution.

ALUMAX

ALUMAX markets, quotes, supplies and installs cabinets, office systems, aluminium doors and aluminium windows, including publicly priced hot-selling products and showroom-only offers.

In short: ELS designs and engineers the system; ALUMAX supplies and installs the products. ELS is not a contractor and not a render studio.

How the system stays consistent

The Living Design Specification.

Each ELS style is governed by a maintained specification covering visual rules, approved material directions, technical requirements, product applications, budget tiers, rendering rules and installation interfaces. This keeps sales images, quotations, drawings and delivered products aligned.

Visual DNAColour, pattern, tone and the styling character that defines the look.
Material DNAApproved material combinations per style, per budget tier.
Engineering DNATechnical feasibility, load, moisture zone and durability rules.
Product application rulesWhich ALUMAX products the style applies to, and how.
Budget-tier logicHow Standard, Comfort and Premium change construction — not identity.
M&E interface rulesSockets, switches, appliances and water points against the approved design.
Render and content rulesHow the style may be shown, so images match what is delivered.
Revision and approval controlWhat changed, who approved it, and which version is being built.

The Living Design Specification is ELS's internal working method — a maintained set of rules and documents, not a registered or patented system.

What we stand for

Principles we
don't compromise

01

Think before building

The most expensive mistake is the one discovered after production or installation.

02

Match material to zone

Dry, semi-wet and wet areas need different material decisions.

03

Design for maintenance

Pipes, drains, hinges, runners, lighting drivers and tracks must remain accessible.

04

Control approvals

Major decisions must be confirmed in writing before production or site work starts.

05

Coordinate specialists

We don't need every trade in-house — we need every trade aligned to one approved scope and standard.

Local expertise

Designed for Sarawak conditions, not showroom photos.

Here, climate isn't a backdrop. Humidity, monsoon rain and heat drive material degradation, mould, swelling, warping and corrosion — so they shape the specification.

Risk

Humidity

Ventilation gaps, material zoning and anti-mould planning.

Risk

Heavy rain

Door/window drainage paths, sill detailing, exterior material choice.

Risk

Heat

Glass selection, window orientation and cabinet material stability.

Risk

Mould risk

Avoid sealed humid storage; plan airflow before production.
