How much of the wall the material covers is its own decision: a panel within the wall, a band the width of the bed or sofa in front of it, the full wall corner to corner, or the material wrapping onto the return wall. Coverage is the decision that most changes what the room costs and how strongly the wall reads — and it is settled before the material is, not after.

You are choosing the wall's material: a laminate-faced panel, a WPC panel, an aluminium composite panel or a stone veneer, with paint as the baseline that adds no cladding. Flush, set back behind a shadow gap, projecting from the wall, or cut into it as a recessed niche, with what each one does to a narrow room and what it asks of the wall behind. The niche carries the caveat that matters: it is only possible where the wall isn't structural, and that is confirmed on site rather than assumed from a page.

Five answers: no dedicated light at all, an even wall wash, close grazing, a concealed backlit halo, or light inside the shelf or niche. The one that matters most is the pairing — grazing is what makes fluting or stone read three-dimensional, and a wall wash is what flattens it, so the lighting and the material are chosen against each other.
