Interior door operation
Between rooms- Best for
- A wide or heavy leaf where a standard hinge would struggle.
- Watch out
- Floor and head fixings must be right; adjustment is less forgiving than a hinge.
- Cost effect
- Higher.
- Scope effect
- Floor finish and threshold have to accommodate the pivot fixing.
- Responsible

- Best for
- Reclaiming the floor a swing would use — the best answer in a tight plan.
- Watch out
- The wall must be able to take a pocket; services in that wall have to move, and a stuck pocket door is awkward to service.
- Cost effect
- The highest, because it is construction as well as hardware.
- Scope effect
- A structural and services decision, not a door choice — resolve before the wall is built.
- Responsible

- Best for
- A sliding door without opening up the wall.
- Watch out
- The door and track are visible, and the wall beside it cannot be used.
- Cost effect
- Moderate.
- Scope effect
- Needs a clear parking wall the full door width, with nothing mounted on it.
