Sibu Living Room: One Calm TV Wall, Planned with the Light and the Cooling
Living room concept: TV wall, light, cooling and floor
The Challenge
A common Sibu living room: a TV wall that has to hold storage, a screen and its cabling, with an air-conditioner, the lighting and the floor all chosen around it.
The Approach
The concept plans the TV wall first: tall units, a lit panel and a low run. The air-conditioner position, the cove light and the floor finish are then set around it, and the curtains are left to the window. Nothing here is measured, specified or quoted.
Proposed resolution
Designed so the TV wall, the cooling and the light can be coordinated on one plan before the ceiling closes, rather than fitted around each other afterwards. It is a concept for the reader to react to, not a built result, a quotation or an approval.
Key Lessons
- →Plan the TV wall, its cabling and the cove light on one drawing
- →Choose where the air-conditioner goes before the ceiling and the wall units are fixed
- →Judge the floor, the wall panel and the sofa fabric together, in the actual room
- →A feature wall is a preference, not a rule: keep the rest of the room quiet around it
See it, understand it, specify it
One living room, taken in the order a decision is made. It is a concept study: not a built project, a quotation or an approval.
Overall view
One living room drawn as a whole: a sofa and an armchair facing a TV wall of tall units, a lit panel and a low run, a dining table at the edge, and a balcony door with sheer curtains.
Palette board
What each surface looks like in the concept. These are appearance directions read from the render: no sample, product or code is matched or approved.
- Ceiling
- Plain white, with small round downlights and a warm cove light above the TV wall.
- Wall
- Plain warm white, with a warm timber-look panel behind the TV.
- Floor
- Light timber-look planks.
- Cabinet
- Tall and wall units in flat fronts, some in timber grain and some in off-white; a low off-white run under the TV.
- Countertop
- Not drawn in this view, so it stays blank here.
- Backsplash
- Not drawn in this view, so it stays blank here.
- Metal
- Dark grey on the balcony door frame; no other metal stands out.
- Fabric
- A beige sofa with cushions, a cream armchair, a pale rug, and sheer curtains with a heavier sand-coloured pair at the side.
Check physical samples together, under the intended lighting, before approving or buying anything.
Compare one decision at a time
Each set below holds renders that ELS read as sharing a viewpoint, the geometry and the light, with one decision changed. They come from the decision library, not from this living room's own render.
TV wall composition
Floor finish
Air-conditioning
Also part of this decision, not pictured: Fans only / no AC
This living room's own comparison is being prepared. No render of it has a twin that changes one decision, so none is drawn. These renders are needed:
- This view with the TV panel in timber veneer and in plain paint.
- This view with the floor in timber-look planks and in a light large-format tile.
- This view with the sofa in the beige fabric and in a darker one.
Detail view
The junction the ceiling light depends on: the concealed LED channel above the TV wall.
Concealed LED channel: confirm the profile before the ceiling closes
A cove or concealed LED line is drawn as a simple line on the ceiling plan, but the channel that holds the strip has its own profile dimensions and installation method. When the recess is built first and the channel is chosen afterwards, the recess may not suit the channel, and the driver can end up sealed in.
Confirm the channel before the construction detail is frozen: its profile dimensions, how it is installed, what it is fixed to, and where the driver is reached. The recess and the plaster and ceiling sequence are then drawn around that channel, and the driver is given a reachable bay or hatch on the reflected ceiling plan.
Read the full detailWhy this combination
A warm timber-look panel, off-white and timber-grain units and a light floor give the room one warm, quiet palette with very few dark accents, and the cove light washes the TV wall softly. ELS leans to this combination in a living room with daylight from a balcony, where the light floor and the pale units carry the light.
An alternative suits better when the room gets little daylight, where lighter units keep it from feeling closed in; when the household wants a livelier wall, where a slatted or fabric panel can add texture; or when the client keeps an existing floor or sofa, in which case the new surfaces are chosen around what stays.
These are preferences, not rules. Judge the combination in the actual room, with the samples, under its own lighting.

Budget summary
This lists what is in scope, what is still to be measured and what ALUMAX's quotation will price. It shows no ringgit amount and no total.
Evidence status: concept only. Nothing is built, measured or quoted.
Scope
- A TV wall of tall units, a lit panel and a low run.
