Concealed LED channel: confirm the profile before the ceiling closes
A cove or concealed LED line is drawn as a simple line on the ceiling plan, but the channel that holds the strip has its own profile dimensions and installation method. When the recess is built first and the channel is chosen afterwards, the recess may not suit the channel, and the driver can end up sealed in.
Confirm the channel before the construction detail is frozen: its profile dimensions, how it is installed, what it is fixed to, and where the driver is reached. The recess and the plaster and ceiling sequence are then drawn around that channel, and the driver is given a reachable bay or hatch on the reflected ceiling plan.
The channel's profile and fixing set the recess depth and the order of plaster and ceiling work, and a closed ceiling is costly to reopen: once it is closed, repositioning a concealed driver becomes recovery work, not a simple ceiling correction. ELS's planning range for a ceiling cove cavity is 150–200 mm, deep enough to hide the light source and throw an even wash rather than a hot line; the channel profile itself is not stated here, because it depends on the component chosen.
Confirm the component before you finalise this detail.
This detail depends on the profile dimensions and installation method. Confirm the component before finalising the construction detail.
Before it is finalised, establish:
- Dimensions
- Compatibility with the substrate or system
- Availability and lead time
- Sample needs
