Common questions
What is cabinet, ceiling and lighting coordination?
It's resolving the seam where cabinets, ceiling bulkheads, lighting, electrical trunking and air-conditioning all meet — before fabrication. ELS by ALUMAX fixes the finished ceiling levels, lays out lights against trunking and ducting on one reflected ceiling plan, clash-checks cabinet tops and cornices against the ceiling, and designs access to hidden drivers and services. The trades and ALUMAX then build to one approved set of levels, instead of each guessing and colliding on site.
Why does the ceiling level have to be fixed before the cabinets?
Because full-height wall units are sized to the finished ceiling. If the cabinet height is decided against a guessed or out-of-level ceiling, the top filler ends up wedge-shaped or the cornice can't run clean. Fixing and signing off the bulkhead level first means the cabinet is cut to fit reality, not to a number that changes once the ceiling is actually built.
What are the most common clashes you prevent?
Four recur: cabinet tops against an out-of-level bulkhead; downlights fighting wiring trunking and duct runs for the same ceiling void; cornices that can't run clean over wall units; and cooker-hood ducting forced through a cabinet back because its path wasn't reserved. All four are cheap to settle on a drawing and expensive to fix once the ceiling is closed.
Why does LED driver access need to be planned into the seam?
Strip lighting and its drivers fail well before the cabinetry or ceiling around them does. If a driver is buried in a sealed bulkhead or cabinet top with no hatch, a simple replacement means tearing open the ceiling or the cabinet. Designing a reachable driver bay or access hatch into the reflected ceiling plan up front costs almost nothing; retrofitting access does not.
Do you install the lights, wiring and air-conditioning yourselves?
No. The electrical, lighting and A/C works stay with those trades, and cabinet fabrication and installation stay with ALUMAX. ELS by ALUMAX coordinates the seam between them — the levels, the set-out, the clash-checks and the access — so each trade builds to one approved plan. We own the overlap, not the individual trade scopes.
Is coordination always needed, or can I just order cabinets?
If it's a single cabinet run with no ceiling, lighting or A/C work around it, coordination may be unnecessary — ALUMAX can supply and install the product directly. Coordination earns its place when more than one trade lands in the same ceiling-to-cabinet zone: full-height units under a bulkhead, cove lighting, hood ducting, or cassette A/C near the cabinetry. That's where an owned seam saves the cost of rework.
How does coordination handle a renovation with an old, uneven ceiling?
We measure the existing slab, beams and ceiling on site — levels can't be reconciled from a photo — then set the finished bulkhead level and work everything else to it. Reusing an out-of-level ceiling is exactly where guessed cabinet heights and clashing services cause the worst surprises, so the measurement and reconciliation are part of the fee for renovation jobs.
How much does cabinet, ceiling and lighting coordination cost?
It's delivered from RM1,500 (excl. SST), scaling with how many trades and seams have to be reconciled — a flat ceiling with cabinets and downlights is lighter than multi-level bulkheads with cove lighting, ducting and A/C. Heavier multi-trade jobs run on a project basis. Site measurement is from RM300 in Sibu / RM500 outstation, creditable on confirmation, and the final figure follows that measurement and the approved scope.
