A cabinet is engineered,not just a look.

Cabinet specification for Sibu and Sarawak. Before a door style or a colour, ELS by ALUMAX settles the engineering — core material by moisture zone, hardware grade, ventilation, LED and driver access, profiles and service gaps — written as a sheet ALUMAX can fabricate and install.

What a cabinet really is

Decide the engineering, then the finish.

A cabinet is a product made of decisions — core, hardware, ventilation, access and profiles. Get these right and the look takes care of itself; get them wrong and no finish can save it.

Core material by zoneParticleboard, plywood, moisture-resistant board or aluminium — the right core depends on whether the cabinet sits in a dry, semi-wet or wet zone, not on price alone.
Hardware & loadHinges, runners and lift systems are rated for a cycle count and a load. Specifying the grade now is what stops doors dropping and drawers sagging in a year.
Ventilation & service gapsBack gaps, toe-kick airflow, hood ducting and access panels keep damp out and let LED drivers, plumbing and fittings be reached later — designed in, not discovered on site.
Specified vs supplied

Who decides what, and where dry meets wet.

ELS by ALUMAX clarifies the specification; ALUMAX supplies, fabricates and installs to the approved sheet. The same split decides dry-kitchen and wet-kitchen logic.

ELS by ALUMAX specifiesCore by moisture zone, hardware grade, ventilation and drainage logic, LED and driver access, profile and reveal details, service gaps, and a cabinet sheet every quote can be checked against.Outcome: a written specification, not a vague picture.
ALUMAX supplies & installsThe cabinet product system, fabrication and installation — built to the approved sheet, with the materials, profiles and hardware that were specified for the zone.Outcome: the product matches what was approved on paper.
Dry-kitchen logicDisplay, light storage and appliance zones tolerate board cores and finish-led choices — provided ventilation, electrical points and LED driver access are still planned.Confirm: ventilation, electrical points, LED & driver access.
Wet-kitchen logicHeavy cooking, washing and standing water demand moisture-stable cores, sealed edges, drainage falls and hood ducting — where particleboard swells and fails within a year or two in Sibu.Confirm: aluminium/MR core, sealed edges, drainage, ducting.

Simple product job? For a straightforward cabinet or wardrobe in a dry zone, ALUMAX can supply, fabricate and install directly — no ELS specification layer needed.

Built for Sarawak conditions

Why core & hardware change by moisture zone.

Humidity, termites and wet-kitchen use are the conditions a generic cabinet quote ignores. These are the ones a Sarawak cabinet spec must answer first.

Humidity & swellingRisk: Sibu's constant humidity wicks into unsealed board cores and edges — cabinets swell, delaminate and lose their doors' alignment.Confirm: Moisture-resistant or aluminium core, fully sealed edges.
TermitesRisk: Timber and untreated board cabinets sit in a termite-active region — a hidden infestation can hollow out a carcass before it's noticed.Confirm: Non-cellulose cores (e.g. aluminium) for high-risk zones.
Wet-kitchen standing waterRisk: Heavy wash-up and frequent wet cooking leave water against base cabinets — toe-kicks and unsealed bottoms rot and harbour mould.Confirm: Aluminium base cabinets, raised legs, drainage falls.
LED, driver & fitting accessRisk: Strip lighting, drivers and concealed fittings fail eventually — if access wasn't planned, repair means tearing the cabinet apart.Confirm: Driver bays, access panels, serviceable LED channels.

Common questions

What is cabinet specification, and why does it matter in Sibu?

Cabinet specification is deciding a cabinet as an engineered product — its core material, hardware grade, ventilation, LED and driver access, profiles and service gaps — not just its look. In Sibu's humidity and termite-active climate, the core and hardware you choose by moisture zone decide whether a cabinet lasts or swells and fails within a year or two.

What does ELS by ALUMAX specify, versus what ALUMAX supplies?

ELS by ALUMAX clarifies the specification: core by moisture zone, hardware grade, ventilation and drainage logic, LED and driver access, profile details and service gaps — written as a cabinet sheet. ALUMAX supplies the product system, fabricates and installs it, built to that approved sheet. Design and specification on one side; product, fabrication and installation on the other.

Do I need ELS for a simple cabinet, or can I go straight to ALUMAX?

For a simple, like-for-like cabinet or wardrobe in a dry zone, ALUMAX can handle the product directly — no ELS layer needed. Involve ELS by ALUMAX when the job is more complex: wet kitchens, mixed moisture zones, LED and appliance coordination, or when several trades and an approved scope need to line up before anyone quotes.

What's the difference between dry-kitchen and wet-kitchen cabinet specs?

A dry kitchen handles display, light storage and appliances, so board cores and finish-led choices are usually fine — as long as ventilation, electrical points and LED driver access are planned. A wet kitchen sees heavy cooking, washing and standing water, so it needs moisture-stable or aluminium cores, sealed edges, drainage falls and hood ducting. Using dry-kitchen logic in a wet kitchen is one of the most common — and costly — mistakes in Sarawak homes.

How do termites and humidity change which cabinet core I should choose?

Sibu sits in a humid, termite-active region. Unsealed board cores wick moisture and swell; timber and untreated board can be hollowed out by termites before it's noticed. For wet and high-risk zones we lean toward non-cellulose cores such as aluminium, with sealed edges, raised legs and drainage — so the carcass isn't food for termites and isn't sitting in water.

Why does LED and driver access need to be in the cabinet spec?

Strip lighting, drivers and concealed fittings fail eventually. If access wasn't planned into the cabinet — driver bays, access panels and serviceable LED channels — a simple repair means tearing the cabinet apart. Specifying access up front is cheap; retrofitting it is not. That's exactly the kind of decision a cabinet specification settles before fabrication.

How much does cabinet specification cost?

Cabinet specification is delivered under the ELS Design + Specification track, from RM1,500 (excl. SST). The figure scales with scope — how many zones, cabinets and coordination points are involved — and the final cost is confirmed after site measurement. ALUMAX then supplies and installs the product to the approved specification.
