ELS Lighting
Light the task, the surfaces and the atmosphere—with controlled glare and accessible maintenance.
That is the approach ELS designs to. ELS Lighting is how ELS plans and specifies light across the kitchen, bathroom, living room and master bedroom, as a curated service and a specification standard.
A curated service, not a fitting maker
ELS's approach is to select supplier products after testing them. No product is named on this page, and the ELS name does not mean ELS manufactures the fittings.
Glare, dimming and colour are judged on actual samples or mock-ups. Photographs and renders cannot prove them, so any render is illustrative.
Eight rules ELS designs to
Each rule describes what ELS plans and checks. None of them is a guarantee of a result.
- Plan from activities first. Locate preparation, reading, dressing, cleaning and circulation needs before arranging ceiling fittings.
- Control the visible source. Assess recessed optics, baffles, diffusers and aiming from standing, seated and lying positions.
- Check reflected glare. Review glossy stone, backsplashes, mirrors, glass doors and TV screens.
- Balance the room. Combine useful task lighting with suitable wall/ceiling illumination; avoid bright spots surrounded by darkness.
- Use layers selectively. General, task and accent lighting should each have a purpose; decorative strips are optional.
- Coordinate colour appearance. Review actual lights with the palette samples; identical colour-temperature labels do not guarantee identical appearance.
- Make controls understandable. Provide practical switching, dimming and scenes without requiring an app for everyday operation.
- Design for replacement. Record drivers, controls, connectors, access and replacement references before ceiling closure.
Where it applies
Each room starts from a composition ELS reviews with you. Colour direction is a starting preference, reviewed against samples in the room; matching colour labels do not guarantee matching appearance.
- Kitchen. Worktop task lighting, suitable general light, optional island/dining feature.
- Bathroom. Face lighting, general light and suitable shower lighting.
- Living room. Wall/general illumination, reading light and optional accents.
- Master bedroom. General light, independently controlled reading lights, wardrobe light and optional low-level night lighting.
- Supporting office. Desk illumination, screen-reflection control and balanced background light.
Kitchen lighting is planned in layers by activity.
Before anything is bought
ELS plans to record each fitting together with its driver and control as one combination, and to record a dimmer and driver compatibility test before purchase. Electrical installation and bathroom suitability must be confirmed by a qualified electrician.
